Here at Groove Conduit and at every other reputable drumstick company all our sticks are weight matched and come packaged as a “pair”. This might seem important in theory, but in practice the numbers don’t really add up.
The reality is that 90% of the time the two sticks act independently of one another in modern drumming. While one stick plays a hi-hat, crash or ride cymbal, the other stick is often playing the snare or the toms.
Combine that with the fact that not many drummers carry equal strength in both hands and arms (right vs left) and the weight matching of the sticks becomes academic. Add all this up against a situation where one stick breaks during a performance. Are you going to stop playing in order to grab a new pair of sticks that are weight matched? I don’t think so. You will probably reach for a single replacement and keep on playing. Then after the gig, will you throw away the single unmatched stick that didn’t break? Probably not.
If you were to only play one drum, such as a snare drum in a marching band, we can understand that weight matching can be important to a consistent sound from that single instrument. Therefore all Groove Conduit drum sticks will come in matched pairs for the sake of simplicity and uniformity. |
